Tiger finally came out of his shell this afternoon and made his first statement as it pertains to his current "debacle". It's about time he manned up and set the record straight. I commend him on his actions.
I am sure that if his speech was not aired on television it would not have been a prepared statement. These vultures were listening for ANYTHING he said to tear apart and keep this going. I would have done the exact same thing if I had been in his shoes.
Everyone deserves a second chance. Show me a person who claims they have never made a mistake and I will show you a bold-face liar. I don't hear anyone making a fuss over Michael Vick or Plaxcio Burress. Then again, I haven't heard anyone say "When I grow up I want to shoot myself in the leg." Marv Albert was in a real pickle at one time also... and I'll wager at least half of the people who read this won't have any idea what I am even talking about.
The only problem I have is this. He did it in front of a select group of people, mainly his family. I have a problem with that. He is a mega sports star. Being in the eye of the public comes with the territory. Being in the public eye is the price to pay when you never have to worry about making a mortgage payment, always fly first class and never have to wait in line. 90% of the money he made was because of US. Wear Nike because I wear it, Drink Gatorade because I drink it, Drive Buick because I drive it. Who were these commercials intended for? Without us buying the products he endorses, he would have lost his sponsors long before he became the African-American One Stop Love Shop. We are owed an explanation from HIM, not the media.
And forget about questions. What can you possibly ask him? How were they? As a side note I have to mention this because I think it's funny as hell. The porn star he allegedly had "relations" with (o.k. Mr. Clinton) complained that her face was featured on a set of novelty golf balls where each of 10 or 12 balls had a picture of each woman that claimed he had relations with. I find this absolutely hilarious because these golf balls aren't the only set of balls her face has ever been on.
In conclusion, Tiger, you have come a long way, you have a little ways to go yet, but you're getting there. Just wait it out, someone is bound to do something stupid and the attention will be off of you in no time.
